SUP is an independent clothing company that focus mostly on apparel. Most of the design are inspired by anything. The word SUP actually inspired and get the idea of the existing word "Wassup" which also known as "hello". The name of the shop is used as their motive or aim because they want to reach out or give the public the first impression that they are friendly and happy. It is more about having a good relationship with customers and treating the customers with a warm welcome for their services so that it can attract people. All this information can be found in their official website. Their apparel are mostly influence by street, punk and hip hop culture. The apparel price here range from SGD$49 to SGD$99
My friends and I came down to their store at Haji Lane and check out what interesting about it. From outside of the shop, It seem interesting and attract youth and teenagers nowdays. Most of the people that hang out outside their shops are people that are street wear peoples. The logo SUP was put up directly on the door of the shop itself. Then we went in to have a closer views on their design apparels.
The layout of the shops is simple but their stuff are interesting and cool. The graphic on the t shirts are fresh and have an element of happy, bold, attractive and energetic as most of the design uses bright colours that grab the attention of people around it.
This are some of the pictures taken in the store itself.

Some t shirts that are display on the shelf. Beside apparels, they also sell SUP accessories and key chains. Like normal stores, they also have their own name card. Their name card are simple and clear, just their logo and website. After walking around the shop and browsing through their stuffs, I had a chance to interview the shop owner Jacki. From the interview I can say that he is a friendly person which treated customer like a friend. Even in the interviews he speak to me as if we have known each other for a long time. This are some of the questions that I ask during the interviews.

We end the interviews with some random talking and I find out that Jacki have been graduated from Singapore Polytechnic last 2 years in nautical course. It is interesting to know that people who from a non-design course get involve in local design business.

Lastly I would like to recommend people out there who are really keen and interested in street or hip hop fashion, you all should check out this store SUP. There sold variety good design t shirt that may interest you. I would also like to thank Rendra and Adli for the picture taken and not forgetting Nas for joining us. :) For more information about SUP clothing, visit their official website at www.supclothing.com.
Me: Where did you get the inspirations for your designs?
Jacki: Anything that came to my mind.
Me: How you feel about the local design scene in Singapore? This is because design culture here is to restricted and not fair for people like you.
Jacki: I feel that local people don't really support local design scene. So that is the reason why local designer have a hard time here.
Me: So how do you sustain in the local design scene since people don't really support or appreciate local design that have here? It is more about sustaining the popularity of your shop and design.
Jacki: This is why Im doing here in Haji Lane to make it big. This is where I started because this place is well known for design culture where people set up shops and then make it far. There is also other outlet that sells my stuff outside Singapore which is in Switzerland and UK. By doing this, I will able to expose my design to other people not only in Singapore but internationally. This is also the reason that can help me sustain my place as a designer.
Me: How did you started?
Jacki: I have been started this since 3 years ago during my polytechnic years in year two. I start by renting the 2 storey shops that cost around $4000 and now the upper storey is being rent for other shops as I think that my stuffs only need small spaces which only the first floor.
Me: Beside selling design t shirts, what other stuff you sell here?
Jacki: We focus on selling t shirts but we do also sell jeans and caps.
